Are you a lover of stories? Do you find yourself trying to figure out just how they do that magic? Do you have a story (or ten) inside you that is just dying to be told? If you answered yes to any of those, this is the place for you.

Here you’ll find basics to get you started on your writing journey, and advanced techniques to make your words shine. We discuss our favorite stories (both books and movies) to learn as much as we can from them, and just for the fun of it!

If you’re new to this whole writing thing, you’ll probably want to start with the Writing 101 series, which walks you through basics you need to know to get started. Have you already written your book? Kudos to you! In that case, you should check out our Cover Design 101 series, where you’ll pick up ideas and tools to design a cover that will make your book stand out. Or if you just want to talk about good stories, check out the Film School series, where we discuss current movies and what we can learn from them. And occasionally geek out a bit over them ::guilty::

Hey! I’m Molly, and I’m obsessed with all things Story 🙂 I read every single day, and yet my TBR (to be read) pile is still through the roof. I also see 2-3 movies a week (thanks to AMC’s A-list program!), and spend the rest of my time working on my dystopian fantasy novel. An artist to the core, I studied music in college with a minor in literature, and then went on to a part-time career as a graphic designer. I spent nearly 10 years teaching English in various countries overseas, and I like to say that teaching is my superpower. Whether it’s explaining a word in English, a complex music theory problem, or the ins and outs of story structure, I love to break things down for people.

My whole life I felt an unfocused urge to create… something… but it took me until my thirties to realize that the something I wanted to create was a story. Well, better late than never 🙂 Except that when, for lack of a better idea, I googled “how to write a book” I got about 700 million results! It was a bit overwhelming, to say the least. So now, years into the process and having found myself on more solid footing, I decided to create a place for others like me. Here I can share the things it took me years to figure out, and give you a pass to the front of the line (or at least the middle). But I also know what I don’t know. When that’s the case, I point my readers to the sources I’ve found to be the most helpful. We’re all in this together, right?

So let’s keep doing this writing thing together! I’ll tell you what I figure out along the way, and you can do the same!
